Day 20

The Gospel & Hebrews

Hebrews was written to Jewish Christians during a time of persecution. They were encouraged not to return to the practices of the old Jewish covenant. The encouragement was to “run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus the author and perfector of our faith.” (Hebrews 13:1-3)

The race is the challenge to persevere, pick up our cross daily and strive to be more like Christ. To cast off the conflict of sins of the flesh and the internal struggle with temptations of the world.

How will we know if we run the race successfully? When we have endured all, by Christ’s example, and are called home, we will know IT IS FINISHED! The words that tore the veil in the tabernacle allowing the children of God entry to the Holy of Holies, without hindrance. It is the example of the body of Christ that was torn and through his shed blood and death we can freely enter the presence of God.

Hebrews 6:19-20, "We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain where our forerunner Jesus has entered on our behalf."

Hebrews 7:24-25, "Because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. Therefore, he is able to save completely those who come to God through him."

Hebrews 7:27-28, "He sacrificed for the sins of the people once and for all when he offered himself. For the law appoints as a high priest man in all their weakness but the oath which came after the law appointed the Son, who has been made perfect forever."

Hebrews 4:14, "Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess."

James 1:4, "Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."
