Day 9

The Gospel & Isaiah

Over 700 years before Jesus was born, the prophet Isaiah described a man who was
despised and rejected by men. The Man was wounded for our transgressions; bruised for our
iniquities and by His stripes we are healed. The Man was led as a lamb to slaughter and did not
open His mouth. He was cut off from the land of the living and stricken for transgressions of
people. His grave was made with the wicked when He died to be the offering for sin - for the
sin of all mankind who, like sheep, have gone astray and turned to our own way.

But though this Man died, Isaiah assures us He shall see His seed and prolong His days
and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand. He will see the labor of His soul and be
satisfied, and by His knowledge the righteous servant of the Lord shall justify many and make
intercession for their transgressions.

Hundreds of years later Jesus Christ came to earth and perfectly fulfilled this description of the
suffering servant outlined in Isaiah 53. Jesus was despised by men and bruised for our
iniquities on the cross. But not only that, Jesus rose again from the grave and by His
knowledge we may be justified and by His stripes we are healed.

This is the gospel. A prophecy fulfilled seven hundred years after it was written and still
relevant today.
