Pastor Danny Lovett's Weekly Blog - 11/08/2018
Good decision making is the key to a happy life. Joshua 24:15 says, "Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve.” Good decision making is not a skill some are naturally blessed with, while poor decision making is a handicap others are born with. Courage, education, or the aging process don’t automatically produce better decision makers. In order to make good decisions there are two questions we need to ask.
(1)”How will I feel afterwards?” What will outlast our decisions are the feelings of self-respect versus shame and positive self-worth versus negative self-worth. Our actions ultimately become history, but our thoughts about them continue to shape our future. That is why Proverbs 4:23 explains that "your thoughts are the source of true life.”
(2)"How will the people I value feel about me after this decision?” The trust and respect of others is always needed to succeed. Reputation trumps money, even in the secular marketplace. ”Choose a good reputation over great riches; being held in high esteem is better than silver and gold” (Proverbs 22:1). Poor decision making can earn us a reputation that will haunt our prospects indefinitely. “A person who plans or chooses evil will get a reputation as a troublemaker” (Proverbs 24:8). When you get a negative reputation it is hard to recover from it (Proverbs.25:10). The short-term benefits of making poor decisions lead to long-term looses and regrets. Remember the person God blesses must exercise self-control, live wisely, and have a great reputation (I Timothy 3:2).
For our fellowship meal after church, we'll have spaghetti, chicken alfredo, tossed salad and garlic bread. You are always encouraged to bring a dish to share with our family and guests. You're the Love in the Love Feast. Thank you for pitching in and helping with the set up of the tables and chairs, the serving of the food or the clean up. Many hands make light work!
Join us as we continue the Experiencing God Bible study at 8:45, Sunday morning. I can't wait to see you!
