Week 2: What We're Learning!

The Road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13–35)
Brite Idea: God gave us the Bible to point to Jesus.
Preschool Big Question (Monthly): How did Jesus save us? He died and rose again!

Two of Jesus’ followers were walking along a road discussing all that had happened. Jesus walked beside them, but they didn’t recognize it was Him. They told Him all that had occurred over the past few days. Jesus explained to them how all of the Old Testament pointed to Him and how He would rescue the people from their sins. Later they ate with Jesus and their eyes were opened. They realized Jesus was truly alive!

God had a plan from the very beginning to redeem His people and save them from their sin. Jesus was that plan! When Adam and Eve sinned, the world was broken by that sin. All through the Old Testament, God promised a Rescuer. He gave glimpses of who He would be and what He would do. When Jesus came to Earth as that promised Rescuer, or Messiah, His death on the cross and His resurrection made it possible to be forgiven of sin and to live forever with Him. The plan God had told the people about happened. Sin has been defeated, and our broken world will one day be all the way restored.

 Monthly Memory Verse: For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
