Midweek Recap and Sunday Preview
Hello CCW Students, friends, and family!
On Wednesday we continued in Zechariah 9:1-8, 11-17. In our message titled "God Declares War," we discussed that God sees when we are mistreated. God promises us both freedom and victory. He is our warrior and shepherd!
Sunday school's passages will look at John 4:9-26 and the lesson is titled "Never Thirst Again." Jesus is the Savior who meets our greatest need!
Why Zechariah? What We've Been Learning and Application
"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness," - 2 Timothy 3:16
It is important for students to be taught all of God's Word. In a world that seeks to poke holes in faith, it is important for faith to be built on solid rock and not shifting sand. The Bible doesn't begin with Matthew and end with Revelation; it begins with Old Testament law, prophets, and writings! Over 75% of the Bible is made up of Old Testament books. It is important for students to see God's promise of salvation made in the Old Testament and God's promise of salvation kept in the New Testament!
Students are faced with hard times, setbacks, and disappointments. The nation of Israel in Zechariah's day was no different. The book of Zechariah tells of Israel's return to their land after being taken captive by the fierce Babylonians. Israel is faced with the daunting task of rebuilding and starting over, but the prophet Zechariah has a message of hope. Students have been learning that the completed work and future hope of Jesus is better regardless of troubling times, places, or circumstances.
Students have also been presented with what it looks like to live out Zechariah 7:9-10 in their schools, with their friends, and in their homes. In a world lacking integrity, students have been challenged to render true judgements (v. 9) specifically with things like academic honesty. In a world full of personal ambition at the expense of others, students have been challenged to show kindness and mercy (v. 9) specifically in the way they use their words. In a world that often overlooks the marginalized, students have been challenged to show compassion to the fatherless, the sojourner, and the poor (v. 10) specifically in the way they interact with classmates from different backgrounds.
