What the Shepherds Found

Dec 14, 2014    Dr. Danny Lovett    Luke 2:8-20

Have you ever wondered why God chose shepherds to be the first recipients of
the glorious news concerning Jesus' birth? The shepherds were despised by the
orthodox Jews of the day. In the very nature of their job responsibilities, they were unable to keep the details of the ceremonial law. They could not observe all the meticulous hand washing and other rules and regulations because their flocks made too many demands upon them. So the shepherds were looked down upon as dirty and common people.

Let us not forget the words Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 1:26-29, "For Ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: but God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things that are mighty; that no flesh should glory in his presence." This Sunday we will see Christmas from the viewpoint of the shepherds.
