CCW Weekly Update
Sunday, March 27 will be an historic day for CCW as we officially mark the end of Pastor Danny’s 10 years of service as senior pastor of the CCW.   You don’t want to miss this very special service. “Pastor Danny” sounds sweet to the ears of a man who has a pastor’s heart and a pastor’s call on his life.  He didn’t always desire the office, in fact when his grandmother was praying for him, he resisted until he just couldn’t fight God. In the late 70s, Danny packed up  his family and moved to Lynchburg to prepare for Christian service, though the call to pastoral ministry didn’t become clear until he served at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Burgess, VA during his last year in seminary.  Driving four hours over and back every weekend, visiting, loving the people and preaching, confirmed his call.  In December 1981, Pastor Danny accepted the call to pastor a recent church plant, the Open Door Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where he served for 12 years.  Battling debt, and a church that had taken over a funeral home facility, he visited door to door, telling people that this place was no longer a place of the dead, it had come alive!    In his time at ODBC, the Lord’s hand was strong.  They learned to walk by faith, trusting God for the salvation of the lost, workers for the ministry, buildings and lands, and a Christian school.  God changed lives and provided every need. Still connected to Liberty through his place on the Board of Trustees, Danny’s heart began to be burdened for the training of pastors, particularly the fire for evangelism and a philosophy of training shepherds.  In 1993, he moved to VA to chair the pastoral training department at Liberty University, and two years later became the first LU graduate to be the Dean of one of its schools.  He developed the seminary into the leader in pastoral training, changing curriculum to support the needs of pastors in the field and grew the online program to be the largest in the US. In 2012, after serving at Tennessee Temple University as president,  pastor at Highland Park Baptist Church, and mission supervisor with Rawlings Foundation, he was challenged to take another step of faith and plant a church in the Chelsea-Westover area.  Praying and serving with lifelong friends, David and Christie Wilson, the culmination of a life of church experiences, both as a pastor and an evangelist, the Church at Chelsea-Westover was born.  Everything that was tucked away in the mind’s filing cabinet was organized into this labor of love.  Biblical truth, vibrant worship, intimate fellowship, and fulfilling service with a heart to love God and people was the foundation of the church.  The mission of CCW was to reach every generation with the gospel, both at home and abroad.
The loving fellowship with the dear saints at CCW has been the highlight of over 40 years of pastoral ministry.  Come join us as we praise the Lord for the past, continue in faithful service in the present, and trust God for the future.  It is with great joy that we invite you to come celebrate Pastor Danny’s last service as the senior pastor at CCW!
