Yes!

An angel instructed Philip to travel a desert road where he encountered an Ethiopian official reading the book of Isaiah. The Holy Spirit guided Philip to approach the man, who invited him to explain the Scripture. After hearing about Jesus, the official believed and asked to be baptized. Philip baptized him, and as they emerged from the water, the Spirit took Philip away. The Ethiopian man continued his journey, rejoicing. God's plan for salvation was for all nations, not just the Jews.

Up to this point, most people who had heard and believed God’s message were God’s people, the Jews. But God had told His followers in Acts 1:8 that His message was to be shared with people all over the world. When Jesus died on the cross, He died for the sins of all people of every nation, race and ethnicity. He is the same Lord over all and is ready to save all who call on Jesus for salvation (Romans 10:12–13). We can share this good news with everyone everywhere!

Monthly Memory Verse: Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is Yours. Yes!

The early church was generous, and the people shared their possessions with those in need. Barnabas sold a field and gave the money away. Ananias and Sapphira also owned a field, but when they sold it, they kept a portion of the money for themselves. They lied about the amount of the proceeds. When Ananias was confronted with the lie, he immediately died. His wife lied too, and she also fell down dead. The early church learned God’s way is best!

When we choose to do things our way instead of God’s way, that is sin. And sin always has consequences. In fact, Romans 6:23 teaches us that the ultimate consequence of sin is death—we deserve to die and be separated from God forever. But that is why Jesus came. God loves us too much to leave us in our sin. When Jesus died on the cross, He took our punishment. When we trust in Him, we can be forgiven. Then the Holy Spirit will live in us and help us to learn to live God’s way.

Monthly Memory Verse: Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is Yours. Tongues of fire appeared above their heads, and they were filled with the Holy Spirit. The Spirit gave them the ability to speak in foreign languages. People from various nations were amazed. He died and rose again!

Two of Jesus’ followers were walking along a road discussing all that had happened. Jesus walked beside them, but they didn’t recognize it was Him. They told Him all that had occurred over the past few days. Jesus explained to them how all of the Old Testament pointed to Him and how He would rescue the people from their sins. Later they ate with Jesus and their eyes were opened. They realized Jesus was truly alive!

God had a plan from the very beginning to redeem His people and save them from their sin. Jesus was that plan! When Adam and Eve sinned, the world was broken by that sin. All through the Old Testament, God promised a Rescuer. He gave glimpses of who He would be and what He would do. When Jesus came to Earth as that promised Rescuer, or Messiah, His death on the cross and His resurrection made it possible to be forgiven of sin and to live forever with Him. The plan God had told the people about happened. Sin has been defeated, and our broken world will one day be all the way restored.

Monthly Memory Verse: For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. Even though He had done nothing wrong, Jesus was beaten, mocked, and sentenced to die on the cross. Jesus was crucified in between two thieves. One made fun of Him. After Jesus died, He was buried in a tomb. When some of His followers returned on the first day of the week, they were shocked to find an empty tomb. Angels said, “He is not here! He is risen!” Jesus defeated death!

Jesus was alive and everything was about to change. Romans 6:23 tells us that the wages of sin is death. Death is the punishment we all deserve because of the things we think, say or do that disobey God. Jesus died for our sins, but He didn’t stay dead. He rose from the dead, defeating death and making a way for us to live forever with Him. When we understand that Jesus is the only way to be forgiven and trust Him as our Savior, we will live forever with Him.

Monthly Memory Verse: For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. He said to them: “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations’? But you have made it a den of robbers.” The chief priests and scribes heard this and began to search for a way to get rid of Him because they feared the impact His teaching was having on the crowds.

John 3:17 says: For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him. Jesus, in His righteousness, shows how to live life God’s way instead of our own. But He didn’t teach about sin to make people feel bad or to judge them. He did it to save them! God cares about the way we live, but He knew that there was nothing we could do on our own to be saved. Jesus came and lived the perfect life we could not live, taught us about our sin and who God really is, then paid the price for our sin on the cross so we could be saved through Him.

Monthly Memory Verse: As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you.
